What I Read in February 2024
While I wish I had good news to share, February was another month that challenged our little family. It was a difficult month for me emotionally and physically, but I am so grateful for books. I did watch a lot of TV this month as an escape, but I also was able to get lost in some pretty amazing stories to distract me and help me cope. I promise, as soon as I am on the other side of what I am going through I will stop being so cryptic. It’s important to me to be as honest as possible while also protecting myself from unsolicited advice and judgement. I know it’s annoying, but it’s the truth.
I read 7 full length books and 6 novellas! Read my brief thoughts below and let me know your favorite of the month!
The Worst Wingman Ever by Abby Jimenez
I loved this novella series so much. This one and the Christina Lauren one were my favorites, but it helped get me into a reading groove during a very difficult season. It was such a fun, sweet, short read that had a lot of substance. It does deal with grief!
With Any Luck by Ashley Poston
I love Ashley Poston and thought this was cute!
Drop Cover and Hold On by Jasmine Guillory
Jasmine Guillory’s writing is so uniquely her and it made me so happy to read another story from her. I love books that feature storms/natural disasters but I had never read one about an earthquake!
The Exception to the Rule by Christina Lauren
I’m going to need a full length version of this book right now. It’s SO good.
Rosie and the Dreamboat by Sally Thorne
This one really missed the mark for me.
Royal Valentine by Sariah Wilson
If you need a dose of Roman Holiday, this is the novella for you!
One Star Romance by Laura Hankin
I read a number of ARCs this month and I am so excited for this book to release in June! It’s one of those romance/fiction hybrids where the characters journey together is equally as important as the ones they’re on on their own.
Raybearer by Jorden Ifueko
I FINALLY read this book that was on my TBR for years. It was incredible and really launched me back into a fantasy era.
Butcher and Blackbird by Brynne Weaver
I can’t believe I actually read this and didn’t hate it? It’s WILD but also so charming. It’s like if Huck and Quinn from Scandal were in a Rom Com.
Swift and Saddled by Lyla Sage
This book is out March 5! Done and Dusted was one of my favorite books of 2023 and I liked this book, didn’t love it. I wanted a little more tension.
Counting the Cost by Jill Duggar
I was really impressed with Jill’s story. I read this because It was available on Spotify’s audiobook page. It was fascinating and heartbreaking to learn about what she lived through.
Summer Romance by Annabel Monaghan
I LOVED THIS BOOK. I think this was my favorite book of the month and will be one of my favorite books of the year. Annabel Monaghan is an INCREDIBLE writer. It’s out in June (i’m sorry) but you need to pre-order it, especially if you loved Nora Goes Off Script.
Powerless by Lauren Roberts
Another surprise of the month! I read this via audio because it was available on Everand (formally Scribd) and was surprised that it was so entertaining. There’s been quite a bit of discourse over this book online and if it resembles different popular YA/New Adult fantasy. I haven’t formed an opinion on it entirely, but the audiobook was entertaining and nice escape from the real world.
