What I Read in September 2023

I feel like most of my vibe for the month of September has been “wow, I feel like myself again.” September was the best reset month imaginable. I read 17 books! I got into a good evening and morning routine, the weather cooled but we still have had gorgeous, sunny, warm weather. I’ve gotten into a good work groove and took on some new professional responsibilities. I feel like I spend so much of Summer dreading September first, but this year, September reminded me why she’s the best.

After this month, I feel ready for the final months of the year. I even feel genuinely so excited for them. Something I’m grateful time has taught me is that my time is precious. I can fill my days with what serves me and not worry about the expectations of others. So thank you, September, for bringing me back to myself.

I also read a boatload of books!!!!!

Thanks to Logan for this adorable template!

Reign by Katharine McGee

I love this series but I have a hot take…it feels like McGee wants there to be drama between the characters for the sake of drama…and then everything wraps up so quick. I don’t know. I still love it and will recommend it for a good time. Majesty was my favorite in the series!

Do I Know You? By Emily Wibberly and Austin Siegmund-Brokka

I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH. It was one of those books that surprised me in its quietness and high emotions. But I LOVED it.

Tom Lake by Ann Patchett

I know. If you’ve followed me for a long time you’ll be surprised since I refuse to read The Dutch House (it’s mostly a joke, love it for you if you love it, but pls don’t push it on me). But you know what? This was a very good book. I really enjoyed it and it was the perfect “end of summer” read.

The Plus One by Mazey Eddings

Okay, this was apparently a month of emotional reads. This Romance totally took me out but I loved it!

You, Again by Kate Goldbeck

I also seriously loved this book. It had peak Fall in NYC vibes which is always something I’m looking for.

The Trap by Catherine Ryan Howard

This was one of my duds of the month. I thought it was fine but nothing special.

Wreck the Halls by. Tessa Bailey

Another miss for me. It just didn’t work for me at all. It was a bit too much, which I usually love from Tessa Bailey but I think my taste is shifting a little bit.

Warrior Girl Unearthed by Angeline Boulley

This was SO good on audio and I highly recommend it!

Snapped by Alexa Martin

Alexa Martin is having a moment and you don’t want to miss it! If you’re invested in the Taylor Swift/Travis Kelce stories and you’re looking to read some romances starring a football player, you’ve GOT to read this series!

Practice Makes Perfect by Sarah Adams

An adorable little book. If I read it with my eyes, I’m not sure I would have been able to take the sugary sweetness, but on audio it was fun!

Tis the Damn Season by Kimi Freeman

Another book for Swifties, this one based on the song of the same title. It was cute! Lacked connection and chemistry in my opinion, but the author 16! So impressive.

Honey and Spice by Bolu Babalola

This audiobook is delicious and decadent. You must read it this way!

Friends Don’t Fall in Love by Erin Hahn

I thought this was going to be a five star read and it ended more a 4 star read, but it was still really good!

Cleat Cute by Meryl Wilsner

I loved all the pieces of this book, but I didn’t love how they fit together. I think it was the first time where I loved everything in this book except the Romance, which is odd for me to feel about a Wilsner!

Thieves Gambit by Kayvion Lewis

If you’re looking for a fast paced read, you must read this book! It was such a fun, exciting read and kept me on the edge of my seat. It’s already been optioned for film and I think it will translate so well!

Faking Christmas by Kerry Winfrey

Add to your holiday TBRs ASAP! It was so fun and I loved how festive it was without being Hallmark level cheesy.

Fair Rosaline by Natasha Solomon

If you are a fan of Maggie O’Farrell’s Hamnet, I think you NEED to read this book. And if you aren’t, but you’re a woman who has wanted justice for all the women in years past, you should read this book. You don’t need to be a Shakespeare fan either! I loved it and it made me so emotional.
