Books by Trope: Celebrity/Normal Person
More books by trope? But of course. Now, one trope I don’t always think I’m a fan of until I read one that’s REALLY good is Celebrity/Normal Person or Celebrity/Celebrity. I don’t know why but I never think to search for them! But when I think about the books I’ve read in this trope, I am always obsessed. Maybe it’s my background in the arts, maybe it’s the stakes, maybe it’s the allure of the glamour…who knows. But if you like this trope, you must read these books. And if you haven’t read this trope, these are a great place to start!
How to Fake It In Hollywood by Ava Wilder
One of my favs of 2022 because it’s got everything I look for in a romance: it’s full of banter, it’s sexy and fun, and it explore something a little deeper. It’s about Grey, an up and coming actress, and Ethan, an established actor who needs good press. Their teams set them up for a PR dating stunt that turns into something more and explores Ethan’s relationship with alcohol. It’s SO good.
Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade
Perfect for fans of Game of Thrones, this Romance is about a fanfic writer who forms a relationship with another writer…who turns out to actually be on the hit show. It’s got plus size rep that is really really good and the main character is so swoony. I loved it!
Until It Fades by K.A. Tucker
A professional hockey player meets a single mom and falls for both her and her daughter. it’s particularly good on audio!
Scandalized by Ivy Owens
Not only is this a celebrity/normal person romance, it’s best friend’s brother 👀 A chance encounter between two childhood friends, one of which is now a huge K-Pop star, while in London turns into something more.
The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan
This is shamelessly one of my favorite books of all time, mainly because the friend group is so iconic. It’s basically Will & Kate fan fiction, if Kate was American. This came out well before Meghan Markle was on the scene, so it’s so funny to see that they unintentionally predicted an American princess!
Funny Feelings by Tarrah DeWitt
Comedians! Falling! In! Love! Also a single dad romance.
Funny You Should Ask by Elissa Sussman
I’m pretty sure this was inspired by Chris Evans and interview he did a couple years ago, but it’s a second chance celebrity romance. Juicy!
You Had Me at Hola by Alexis Daria
Another all time fav that I’ve recommended a bunch! Perfect for fans of Jane the Version, as the two actors are shooting a telenovella-esque show for a Netflix style streaming service. It’s got spice and a hell of a lot of heart. I love it!
The Charm Offensive by Allison Cochrun
The best description I ever heard of this book was, “it’s like the Bachelor, if it was actually diverse.” This takes place on the set of a reality dating show like The Bachelor but when the lead starts to fall for one of the guys on the crew, things get complicated.
Built to Last by Erin Hahn
This is perfect for my closed door romance readers. It’s a second chance romance for a young woman who is trying to overcome her past as the stereotypical child star who had a public meltdown. It’s all about fresh starts and finding the one who go away.
