Romance Books By Trope: Small Town
I entered a small town romance era and never left it. My goal for this list was to make sure I wasn’t only recommending Devney Perry’s books, but honestly, one must salute the Captain of Small Town Romance: the one and only Devney Perry. As someone who doesn’t read a lot of fantasy, I think I find small town romances to really capture a feeling of escapism without the overwhelming feeling of learning a magic system or world building. Each small town is different and sweetly unique, weather it’s in the middle of nowhere, the mountains, or by a beach.
I love a small town romance and I hope you do too!
Coach by Devney Perry
College football coach + the one who got away + forbidden work romance + mountain setting = a perfect book for me. I love this book! It’s about a former NFL star turned college coach who returns to his alma mater where a college friend currently works. It’s a second chance, single dad romance set in a charming college town in Montana.
The Jamison Valley Series by Devney Perry
This was my first Devney series and I loved it. There are some mystery elements to it and, generally, no third act break ups. My favorite is The Outpost, which is book 4 in the series!
Chestnut Springs Series by Elise Silver
I recently started this series on audio while on a road trip and it’s way outside what I normally read, but thank to the show Yellowstone, I’m all about the cowboys right now. The first book is about a bull rider!
Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez
If you’re a Gilmore Girls fan, I think you’ll like this book because it’s quite similar to Luke and Lorelai’s storyline. Throw in an age gap, some adorable dogs, and if Luke’s diner was also a historic AirBnB and we’ve got a small town romance!
Digging Up Love by Chandra Blumberg
This is one I haven’t read yet but it sounds adorable! And there are dinosaurs (fossils), which I can’t say I’ve a whole lot about in Romance novels.
The Wild Series by K.A. Tucker
It’s impossible to leave this series off the list. Impossible! Set in Alaska, it’s city girl meets grumpy small town guy and the extended cast of characters is truly one of the best I’ve read. They stay with you!
Lovelight Farms by B.K. Borrison
Three words: Christmas Tree Farm. That’s what sold me on this book! This series is so cute and particularly good on audio.
In a Jam by Kate Canterbary
Another I haven’t’ read but my podcast host, Ashley, LOVES this book. That’s the only recommendation I need!
Astrid Parker Doesn’t Fail by Ashley Herring Blake
Stop what you’re doing and read the Bright Falls series if you haven’t yet. Astrid is probably my favorite so far, but Delilah Green Doesn’t Care is also so good. It takes place in a fictional small town in the Pacific Northwest and it is queer and funny and pulls at the heartstrings.
Bet On it by Jodie Slaughter
Walker is back in his hometown to care for his injured grandmother when he meets Aja and the chemistry is undeniable. But since he knows he’s leaving and a relationship isn’t in the card, they instead agree on a bingo-based sex pact. Set in small town South Carolina, where things heat up!
