No Buy January

If you’re an avid reader of the blog, you know every week I share any relevant purchases I’ve made and what I’ve got my eye on. Between holiday shopping, my birthday, and getting a little too into the “treat yourself” mentality, I decided I wanted to start the month off with another No Buy Month! I did No Buy July over the summer and found it to be extremely beneficial!

I do have a couple gift cards from Christmas and my birthday so I’m going to allow myself to use those for coffee or books but other than that, I am going to limit my spending to essentials like groceries and household supplies. I want to read the books I have, especially the MANY ebooks I’ve acquired over the last year of having my Kindle.

The goal of my No Buy Months is to break the cycle of excessive spending. It becomes almost like a habit to for me ala Ariana Grande: “I see it, I like it, I want it, I got it.” And that it not sustainable budget wise but also for the environment!

There are so many things I love to share with all of you but I’m also craving things just being simpler. I’m not a minimalist by any means (have we seen my unread shelves?) but I do not need so much, if that makes sense. We have some big goals and hopes for our finances in 2022. We want to buy a house soon, which is our number one goal.

I’m going to be sharing weekly updates and obviously more on Instagram and TikTok but I’m excited for this monthly challenge! I think I’ll do them once a quarter in 2022.

My Motivations

  1. I spent way too much in December between stress and the holidays.

  2. I don’t feel good when I overspend.

  3. I need to purge my closet, office, and bookshelves before I can acquire any new items.

What I Hope to Achieve

  1. A clutter free space

  2. A clutter free mind

  3. Put more towards savings

    Strategy

    1. Like in July, I will keep track of any items that catch my eye and see if I still want them as of February 1.

    2. Avoid scrolling for the sake of scrolling

    3. Declutter my closet and bookshelves. I NEED to clear out some things before anything new can come in.

    4. Only use gift cards for Starbucks, January book releases

Do you have any financial goals this year?
