What I Read in August 2021

I truly can’t believe it, but August was my best reading month. Yet, it also kind of felt like the most chaotic month of the year so far! But looking back, I read some great books and made some awesome memories, even though the news feels like it grows heavier and heavier each day. If you suffered a loss this month of any kind, please know I’m holding space for you. It’s okay to not be okay.

When life feels hard, I always lean into books. This month I was really able to get lost in my books and it felt so good. Strangely enough, it helps to clear my head even though I’m filling it with the stories of others.

Wild Love by Lauren Accardo—I so desperately wanted to love this book, given the setting, but it really fell flat for me. I’m not sure if I’ll continue on with the series but it does have a lovely cover.

Fable by Adrienne Young—I read this via audio which is a great way for me to enjoy YA Fantasy. Sometimes I don’t have the attention span for it but the voice actors always pull me in. I liked this one and it ends on a huge cliffhanger so I guess I’ll be reading book 2!

This Will All Be Over Soon by Cecily Strong—A stunning, heartbreaking, mildly humorous memoir focusing on grieving during the pandemic. It’s a difficult read but one I am glad I made space for.

Blush by Jamie Brenner—Women’s fiction can be so hit or miss for me lately. This one fell a bit middle of the road for me sadly, but I still liked it.

The Turnout by Megan Abbott—Oh gosh, I rarely talk about books I didn’t like but…I really didn’t like this book. The only way I could describe it to Nick was that it made my tummy hurt lol. Not the book for me.

Finlay Donovan is Killing It by Elle Cosimano—I finally get the hype. This book is hilarious, unique, and kinda wacky. I really enjoyed it!

Center Center by James Whiteside—Such a great memoir and we had James on Read It Or List It!

Isn’t It Bromatic? by Lyssa Kay Adams—I love this series so much. This is the fourth book in the series and it was a solid read! Not a new fav but full of heart and humor.

The Royal We by Jessica Cocks and Heather Morgan—A reread that I don’t regret a moment of! I lead it via audio for the first time and besides a wonky Yorkshire accent for one character, it was a really good audiobook!

The Charm Offensive by Allison Cochrun—I LOVED this book! I flew through it on a Sunday at the pool and oh my gosh it was so so so good. Comes out in September!

The Play by Elle Kennedy—Book 3 in the Briar U series, a spin off from the Off Campus series! I liked Hunter’s story. There were some elements that were questionable and it moved a little slow. But I love the Off Campus universe.

As If On Cue by Marisa Kanter—Such a surprise! It’s a love letter to high school theatre and made me smile so much.

Beautiful World, Where Are You? by Sally Rooney—My first Rooney and I think I fall into the camp of…huh? Her work is about normal people (no pun intended) but it also just kind of made me sad. I have a lot of thoughts on this one so stay tuned for a review.

Mom Jeans and other Mistakes by Alexa Martin—Probably my favorite read of August! SO GOOD! Out September 7.

Hello (From Here) by Chandler Baker and Wesley King—I don’t really know why I picked this one up, but I do love to suffer sometimes. It’s a YA novel about the Covid-19 Pandemic (lol see, I love to suffer).

15 books! That’s the most I’ve read in a month so far this year. Did you have a favorite read from August?
