Review Round Up
Thursdays around here have turned into a little review round up and I’m feeling it! It holds me accountable to get my thoughts out more immediately after finishing books and posting my in depth reviews!
The Girl He Used to Know by Tracey Garvis Graves—WOWEE ZOWEE this one hit me like a punch to the gut. I read some other review on Goodreads and definitely see how it can be a divisive book but I thoroughly impressed with and enjoyed it. I really loved the characters. The ending felt a tad rushed but I tend think that’s common in some romances. I will say, 9/11 plays a huge roll in this book. I don’t know if it was necessary but I didn’t think it was tasteless, as some people say. There could have been something else that prompts Annika to act, but it’s a book and the author went for the drama. It didn’t bother me, it just felt rushed.
If You Want to Make God Laugh by Bianca Marais—I really, really enjoyed this book. It deals with some seriously heavy material (the AIDS crisis in South Africa, rape, suicidal thoughts, miscarriage, death/dying, racial slurs, and racism) but it’s written in a really digestible way. I loved the characters and the writing! We’ll be going in depth on this one on the podcast next week!
Darling Rose Gold by Stephanie Wrobel—I really didn’t know what to expect from this one because it’s totally outside my comfort zone. But when our contact at Penguin Randomhouse reached out, I was ready to take the plunge. Thank you for my copy! We’re going to be featuring this one on the podcast as well, with an exciting twist. I liked it, but I’m not a true crime junkie or thriller lover, so a lot of the issues people had with it were fine by me! It’s a thinker and really disturbing but pulls you right in. Darling Rose Gold publishes on March 17!
