Review: Crazy Stupid Bromance
One of my favorite books of 2019 was The Bromance Bookclub. I think it started me on my romance kick that I have followed through with in 2020. After speaking with the author on Read It Or List It, I fell even more in love with her work because she is just a wonderful human.
Crazy Stupid Bromance is the 3rd installment of The Bromance Bookclub companion series and I’m gonna say it: it’s the best one yet. I laughed out loud reading this book, read passages to Nick, and had a smile on my face the whole time. It does deal with some heavier topics, but with such grace and respect, while still making you swoon and giggle. Noah has made it onto my list of favorite book boyfriends!
Synopsis: “Alexis Carlisle and her cat café, ToeBeans, have shot to fame after she came forward as a victim of a celebrity chef's sexual harassment. When a new customer approaches to confide in her, the last thing Alexis expects is for the woman to claim they're sisters. Unsure what to do, Alexis turns to the only man she trusts--her best friend, Noah Logan.
Computer genius Noah left his rebellious teenage hacker past behind to become a computer security expert. Now he only uses his old skills for the right cause. But Noah's got a secret: He's madly in love with Alexis. When she asks for his help, he wonders if the timing will ever be right to confess his crush.
Noah's pals in The Bromance Book Club are more than willing to share their beloved "manuals" to help him go from bud to boyfriend. But he must decide if telling the truth is worth risking the best friendship he's ever had.” —From the publisher
What I Liked:
The Trope—If you’ve been here for awhile, you’ll know that I love an Enemies to Lovers Romance. It’s probably my favorite trope. But when I read a really good Friends to Lovers, I am reminded with how much I do truly love this trope. And Adams nailed it with this one! It felt so natural; the stakes were high and the payoff was worth it. It had the perfect amount of tension that I didn’t think possible with this trope!
The Bromance Bookclub—I have always loved the friendship between the group of guys in this companion series. I missed a lot of them in the second installment, Undercover Bromance, and I think Adams really nailed the balance in this one between focusing on the romance while also satisfying the reader’s need to laugh along with the guys.
The Family Drama—This book deals with the arrival of Alexis’ long lost father in her life along with his health problems and Alexis’ role in saving his life. While these topics could be really heavy, Adams once again strikes the perfect balance between heartwarming, heart wrenching, and raw.
What Didn’t Work:
I am pretty close to saying nothing, because I truly loved this installment!
TW/CW: organ donation, parental abandonment, loss of a parent, mention of sexual assault/harassment
