5 Tips for Traveling with Books
I’m traveling to Atlanta this weekend for work and fun—my childhood BFF and bridesmaid lives there! So we are staying the weekend after my work commitments are done. I’ve mentioned before, but there is nothing like a good airport reading session for me.
I don’t like when my flights get canceled (RIP my Thanksgiving flight home) but I still have a weird love of airports. If you haven’t read Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel, do it. When it read that book it totally reaffirmed how airports are these tiny towns where the rules and laws are totally different.
But if you’re an avid reader or someone who uses traveling and vacation time to catch up on books, you know how hard it can be to make room for multiple books in your carry on and suitcase. Here are my tips:
Utilize the Kindle app on your phone! I am a recent convert to the Kindle. I use the app on my iPad and these blue light blocking classes to protect my eyes. It’s not the same as a physical book, but it’s the easiest way to travel with books!
Try to utilize the paperbacks on your shelf—they are more flexible!
Book Sleeves: I never understood the purpose of these until I got my first one. If you’re traveling with hardcovers especially, these will protect them!
If you haven’t purchased the new book you want to read yet, look up any independent bookstores in the area where you’re traveling! Save the purchase as a souvenir from your trip.
Unstructured carry on/personal item: I love using my LL Bean Boat Tote as my personal item. It doesn’t have much structure yet can fit quite a bit, so I can sneak a few extra books in!
I’m planning on getting a lot of my review copies read on this trip, since the very popular February 4th pub day is closely upon us! I’ll be reading the following:
I also ordered these packing cubs on Amazon and I’m excited to try them out! I think they will make my organization loving heart very happy. I’ll be sure to share how successful I am with them in my Weekly Wrap Up!
