The Gift of Reading

During this season of giving, I’ve shared a number of gift guides. But there is no better gift than the gift of reading. Reading brings us together in ways we don’t see so loudly all the time, but it the best way to learn new things and engage in an empathetic way.

You can give the gift of reading this season by simply making the time to open a book with your children, nieces and nephews, or volunteering at a shelter, hospital, or retirement home. Donate books to libraries and schools in underprivileged areas.

Give yourself the gift of reading by choosing something outside your comfort zone! I’m going to list my favorite books that have taught me about a different culture, were written by women of color, and feature minority characters.
