10 Journal Prompts For When You Don't Know What to Write
I love to journal. Writing is how I work out a lot of my racing thoughts but I also think it’s an important way to check in with ourselves when we’re feeling good as well as off kilter. I find it’s hardest for me to journal on my hard days, which tends to be when I need it most. When I sit down to journal, I usually just start writing from the heart but sometimes it’s nice to have a little guidance to get me going.
Here are ten prompts I like to focus on! I am a creature of habit so I’m always curious to recap my evening when I wake up in a bad mood or feeling like everything is so much harder that morning. I generally journal in the morning or around lunch time.
Do you journal? Do you want to start journaling?
What did your night look like?
What are the sounds that are bringing you peace right now?
Describe your ideal morning/evening routine.
Release the expectation of perfection. Where do you want to be a month from now? Six months from now? A year from now?
If you could travel anywhere in the world at no cost to you, what would the trip look like?
What aspects of your every day life bring you comfort? Discomfort?
Describe the last time you had a day all to yourself. What did you love about it? What would you change?
How do you refill your cup?
What replenishes my energy?
Close your eyes. What do you hear? How does it make you feel?
