When I first started reading audiobooks regularly, I only ever did non-fiction because I felt that I’d lose focus listening to fiction. Non-fiction felt like it could be an extra long podcast! And I was right and I read plenty of non-fiction for audiobooks for years…until Lockdown! I couldn’t handle the real world so I didn’t want real stories. I ended up with an audiobook of The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez, which was my first Romance on audio and it changed the game for me. It was told in dual perspective and had dual narration! It totally pulled me in and realized that my brain is totally capable of listening to fiction on audio!
Once I opened myself up to that, it expanded my reading life in the best way. I highly recommend giving it a chance. Don’t count yourself out!
Pageboy by Elliot Page
A memoir by the Oscar nominated actor that is so personal and so well written. This was a recent fav because it is narrator by Elliot and I loved hearing his story in his own words.
A Caribbean Heiress in Paris by Adriana Herrera
I don’t read a lot of historical romance, but I rewatched Bridgerton and needed more of that vibe. I loved this book and with all the different accents needed, I feel like the audiobook is the only way!
The Fiancee Farce by Alexandria Bellefleur
This was such a FUN audiobook because it’s told in dual POV and it’s fake dating. It’s so fun to hear all the intention in a tropey book like that!
Forget Me Not by Julie Soto
Personally, I think this book is a knockout no matter how you read it, but the audio is so flipping good. A tattooed florist!!!! Iconic.
Paris by Paris Hilton
I read this recently after downloading for a road trip with my best friend. I know Paris has A LOT of aspects to her, and some of those things i didn’t like that she glossed over instead of acknowledging, but I was really moved by the experienced she went through as a teen. She narrates it as well, so it’s quite personal.
Past Favorites
The Only Plane in the Sky
While this book was incredibly emotional for me to listen to, it’s very well done. It is an oral history of 9/11 and it is done with a full cast, so each person has an actor voicing them, making it an incredibly immersive experience.
The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez
Had to include the book that got me into fiction on audio!
Open Book by Jessica Simpson
I think this is my favorite celebrity memoir of all time.
The Summer I Turned Pretty Series by Jenny Han
I read the first book in this series with my eyes after loving To All the Boys I Loved Before and I worried that Jenny Han’s writing was too young for me. But then I read books 2 and 3 on audio and I was swept away by the narrator. The narrator really taps into the feelings of being a young woman and I LOVED it.
As always, my favorite way to listen to audiobooks is through Libro.fm! It’s a service that supports independent bookstores and I truly think the app is one of the best as it’s user friendly.
