Weekly Wrap Up 3/31/23

First of all, I hope everyone reading this is taking care of themselves. I don’t know how many times we can keep living through this same reality of children being in danger at school. As a teacher, I’m terrified and heartbroken. As an American I am enraged and embarrassed. This week has definitely taken a toll on my mental health and I’m not even a parent.

I often write about escaping into fiction and the relief it can bring, even just for a moment. Over the last seven years (since the 2016 election) I think I’ve really learned how my brain and body need to recover in order to keep fighting the good fight. But it’s also okay if escaping into books or movies or comfort stories isn’t something for you right now.

At the end of today’s Weekly Wrap Up, I’ve linked some resources I’ve leaned on this week for information, action steps, and donations.

I’m always here for you.

Weekend Reading Plans:

Romantic Comedy // Do I Know You? // Secretly Yours

Listening & Watching:

Articles & Videos

I feel like everyone shared the Vulture Magazine piece on Emily Henry and Rom Coms, but if you haven’t read it, I highly highly recommend it. After this heavy and hopeless feeling week, it was a nice pick me up.

If you’re still unsure where to donate regarding Common Sense Gun Reform in the United States, here are a few resources I’ve found and have been donating to.

Moms Demand Action // Everytown for Gun Safety

I also HIGHLY recommend following @emilyinyourphone for tangible action steps as well as scripts for calling your representatives.

Weekend Plans:

I’m teaching a workshop this Saturday and I’ve got the weekend to rest and prep for Spring Break theatre camp! I’m looking forward to a weekend of rest and writing. I hit a major roadblock in my draft this week and feel a little stuck, so i’m hoping having some time devoted to it will help.

Have a great weekend and make a plan to contact your representatives!
