Little Women Retellings
I’ve been really enjoying putting together some lists featuring retellings! With all the excitement over Ann Napolitano’s new release, Hello Beautiful, I was inspired to take a look at some of the Little Women retellings on my shelves and TBR. I have always been a fan of Louisa May Alcott’s iconic story. I fell in love with the 1994 film version when I watched it as a kid and I love the 2019 version as well. Justice for the Amy Marches of the world!
I wasn’t planning on reading Hello Beautiful because, this is an unpopular opinion, but i didn’t like Dear Edward! I found it to be really emotionally exhausting and I didn’t enjoy the pacing at all. And while I think Hello Beautiful sounds like it contains heavy subject matter as well, I’m still so intrigued by it! It seems to capture that magical feeling of family the March sisters brought to Laurie.
Meg & Jo by Virginia Kantra
This is the first installment of Virginia Kantra’s retelling and it focuses mainly on Meg and Jo, as the title suggests. Jo works in a restaurant and has food blog, Meg is at home in North Carolina tasked with maintaining the family farm while her sisters are off on adventures.
Beth & Amy by Virginia Kantra
This has been on my TBR for years and I just haven’t gotten to it! It’s the second book in the series, focusing on Beth and Amy. To my knowledge, I think Beth makes it out alive in this one…
Little Women: A Modern Retelling by Laura Schaefer
A modern retelling of the classic!

Jo: A Graphic Novel by Kathleen Gros
Though this graphic novel is aimed at the middle grade audience, I think it sounds fascinating!

More to the Story by Hena Khan
One of the reviews of this book said it’s one of the best retellings because it’s inspired by the original but makes it entirely its own.
Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy by Rey Terciero and Bre Indigo
Another that’s been on my list for a long time!
Jo & Laurie by Melissa De la Cruz and Margaret Stohl
While I am an Amy March through and through, I always wanted her to find someone besides Laurie. However, I didn’t think he was right for Jo either. Yet this book does a really great job at reimagining the ending! I really liked it.
So Many Beginnings by Bethany C. Morrow
I bought this from Alice, Ever After Books last Spring and I really want to read it!
Belittled Women by Amanda Sellet
Great or Nothing by Joy McCollough, Caroline Tung Richmond, Tess Sharpe
Little Women, set in the 1940s. I need to read this but I’ve heard it makes you cry. So I need to be in the right mindset for sure!
