Review: Dream On by Angie Hockman
Thank you Gallery Books for my copy. All thoughts are my own!
I have been craving all the easy, breezy Rom Coms lately. I enjoyed Shipped last year on audio so I was excited to give Angie Hockman’s next book a try. And it was cute! I found the premise unique and while “out there”, handled is a really natural way. It felt absurd and realistic all at the same time.
Synopsis:
“When law grad Cass Walker wakes up after surviving a car accident, she is flooded with memories of a man named Devin. The only problem? Devin—as confirmed by family, friends, and doctors—doesn’t exist. Everything about him, from his coffee-brown eyes to the slightly crooked angle of his pinkie to his high-wattage charm, is a figment of Cass’s coma-addled imagination. Still, she can’t get him out of her head.
So when she happens upon the real Devin a year later in a Cleveland flower shop, she’s completely shocked. Even more surprising is that Devin actually believes her story, and despite his protective younger brother’s doubts, they soon embark on a real-life romance. With her dream man by her side and a new job at a prestigious law firm, Cass’s future seems perfect. But fate might have other plans...”—Amazon
What I Liked:
The “Magic” Element—I thought this premise was unique! Cass wakes up from being in a coma and thinks she’s been in a relationship for a guy named Devin for three months. But plot twist, she hasn’t and none of her friends and family know who she’s talking about. It was a very cinematic concept and I could see it as a movie.
Cass’ Profession—I’ve learned A LOT about Big Law since meeting Ashley. It is such a demanding career and I loved how Cass explored her career as a lawyer and the kind of work that leaves her feeling fulfilled.
The Tone—It was light and breezy with the right amount of heart.
What Didn’t Work:
Just Wasn’t My Vibe—I liked this book fine, but I don’t think it will stick with me. But I think if you liked Shipped or books that aren’t cheesy like Hallmark movies but aren’t super smutty either, this will be a great closed door Romance for you.
