Building a Skincare Routine

I only recently have dipped my toe into the land of skincare. It is SO important but felt so daunting! I stumbled across this article about How to Build a Skin Care Routine and it made it so much easier for me to understand what my skin needs to be it’s best.

That’s the thing, our skin is SO different so you have to figure out what works for your skin type. I have combination skin that skew on the drier side. I also suffer from redness, so I built my routine off of that!

Cleanser:

I use Micellar Water, which can be used for all skin types, and recently learned that I should be using a cream/lotion cleanser for my red and dry skin. I started using Versed Gentle Cycle Milky Cleanser as well.

Toner:

I use the Trader Joe’s Rose Water Toner but I want to find some with the following ingredients—Alpha and beta hydroxy acids, Vitamin E and C

Serum:

This is one ingredient I am missing from my skin care routine! I want to use a retinol serum but the price of most and some reviews have me a little nervous. I’d love to know what you recommend! I’m tempted by this one from The Ordinary.

Moisturizer:

My all time favorite moisturizer is Clinique’s Moisture Surge but according to my research, I shouldn’t be using a gel moisturizer! I switched to a cream based one and once again, Trader Joe’s comes through with their Oil Free Nourish Antioxidant Moisturizer.

SPF:

I go back and forth some some SPF depending on what I need for the day. I love the Supergoop Glowscreen and Unseen Sunscreen for every day use under make up. I love SunBum and I am now obsessed with Dr. Brandt’s Liquid Sun Shield.

Overnight Masks:

I have always loved overnight masks and they were my introduction to the world of skincare. I LOVE Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask and Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask.

I’d love to know any recommendations you have to add to my routine as well!
