#NoBuyJuly Thoughts
Now that #NoBuyJuly is nearly done (2 days people!) I am VERY proud to say that I completed 29 days of no unnecessary spending and will finish out the month at 31! It was really eye opening and helped curb some of bad habits I’d developed.
What I Learned:
I tend to scroll when I’m bored (duh) and gravitate toward things that look/feel like things I already own
I use spending as a way to make me feel better when I’m sad
It’s easier for me to say no to an in person purchase than an online one
How I Want to Move Forward:
Continue finding healthier ways to cope with sadness or a bad day—I don’t always need a new book or a trip to Target. A bath, hot shower, cooking a new recipe, or a walk with Beasley is a great way to get a change of scenery on a bad day.
Keep being mindful. Be aware of where I’m spending, what I’m spending it on, and what is and isn’t necessary. Especially when it comes to books, unless I’m going to read it right away or I really want to support the author during their pub week, I can wait to purchase it.
If I already wanted to get it and it’s on sale, I’ll buy it. I don’t need to buy JUST because it is on sale.
Pros:
I read more from my unread shelf than I have in probably a year.
I didn’t feel guilty for almost the whole month!
I didn’t purchase anything I didn’t like just because it was on sale.
I got through rough days in much healthier ways and didn’t have a serotonin crash after the instant gratification wore off.
Cons:
I missed going to the bookstore (I didn’t want to tempt myself)
I wanted to work at a coffeeshop but could only go where I had a gift card.
I missed out on an item I really wanted because it was on sale, but I’m proud of myself for not giving in!
What I’ll Be Ordering:
Shockingly, not a lot! There are two books I want and I will read pretty soon after purchasing. I’ve been eyeing the bookshop candle for a bit, I think it will look so cute on my shelves! The Bee’s Wrap is really practical and probably would have fit into the essentials category this month, but I just discovered it recently! I have the polo dress in Navy is wear it all.the.time. so another color is necessary. And the slides! I bought a less expensive pair from Old Navy earlier in the summer and I wear them so much, I know it’s worth it to splurge.
