What I Read In June 2021
June is one of my favorite months. There’s Pride, the transition from Spring to true Summer, and the endless possibilities of the Summer still ahead. This is the first month in a while that hasn’t felt like it totally and completely flew past me, but it was so busy! My parents came for a visit, we brought Beasley home, and I started spending some awesome afternoons at the pool.
Summers as an adult are weird but also magical in their own way. This summer I am promising myself to find that magic, even amidst the stress and changes. Beach days, barbecues, and staying up late finishing juicy books.
Check back in July to see if I keep this promise to myself! Here’s what I read in June:
The Goal (Off Campus #4) by Elle Kennedy—The final book in the Off Campus series! I really liked Tyler and Sabrina’s story. It was unexpected and a great conclusion. There’s a 5th book coming in September called The Legacy that I can’t wait for!
People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry—This is summer in a book. I really liked Alex and Poppy’s story, which surprised me because Beach Read wasn’t a favorite of mine last summer. My review is here!
Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters—Oh my goodness, this book. WOW. I highly recommend this one if you’ve been struggling to understand the complexities of gender and identity. It’s raw and gritty, romantic and heart wrenching.
Live Your Life by Amanda Kloots—An absolute must read.
The Passing Playbook by Issac Fitzsimons—There’s just something about summer and YA that does it for me. I loved this book so much. My review is here!
When Summer Ends by Jessica Pennington—A fun lakeside summer YA romance. It’s a little disjointed and didn’t replace the author’s other book, Meet Me at Midnight, as a favorite!
The Chase (Briar U #1) by Elle Kennedy—The first book in the Briar U series, a spin off of the Off Campus series. I really liked Summer’s story and I will be continuing the series!
Kate in Waiting by Becky Albertalli—Oh this book was SO nostalgic for me. I have read a few of Becky Albertalii’s other books and this book was so close to home for me. It’s a theatre kid story and it’s just perfect.
A Queen from the North by Erin McRae—You know I love royal fiction. I read this book for the June Is Audiobook Month campaign I did with the Audiobook Publishers Association!
Blush by Jamie Brenner—Another “summer in a book” option that takes place at a family own winery in the Hamptons.
Sweethand by N.G. Peltier—A delicious and tropical romance set in Trinidad! This was so fun to listen to on audio and made me want to head straight to the Caribbean. Thank you Libro.fm for my copy!
The Risk by Elle Kennedy—The second book in the Briar U spin off series by Elle Kennedy. I also really liked this one! I read it so slowly because I started it the night before we brought B home but I liked it! Big fan of Jake. TW for drug abuse and miscarriage.
