Our Stay at the Mirror Lake Inn Resort & Spa

When we had to postpone our wedding last year, we also had to cancel our dream honeymoon to the Ladera Resort in St. Lucia. We knew going forward with our April 30 wedding this year, it probably wouldn’t be safe enough to travel internationally just yet but we still wanted to do something to celebrate our long awaited marriage.

Nick proposed on our annual Memorial Day Weekend trip to Lake Placid a couple years ago and it made a place we already loved that much more special. So when we had to think of a place to go to celebrate our long awaited marriage, we decided to head back to where it all began.

The Mirror Lake Inn Resort & Spa is a 4 star resort right on the lake that combines the perfect amount of luxury and cozy. We were so honored to stay there and had the best week relaxing, exploring, and soaking up the clear mountain air.

You can expect fantastic service from the staff and there are rooms for everyone, whether you are traveling with your significant other, another couple, your family, or multiple families!

We stayed in a classic room in the Mountain View Building, but don’t let that deceive you—you’re not getting a mountain view. ALL the rooms at the Inn have a lake view, so no matter where you choose to stay, you will be able to gaze out on the pristine lake and mountains over coffee or cocktails.

We were lucky enough to tour some of the other rooms and suites available and it’s safe to say we will be booking a trip back ASAP! From adjoining suites for families, to a two level suite that makes you feel like you’re in a private cabin, to the privacy of lakeside homes, it’s the perfect spot for a long weekend all year round!

I shared a lot of our trip on Instagram (I have a highlight saved) but wanted to share some other aspects of the Resort as well as things to do in the area if you decide to make a trip yourself!

Food

The Village of Lake Placid on Mirror Lake has so many fun and delicious restaurants. The Mirror Lake Inn has two restaurants: The View and The Cottage. The View is the only fine dining on the lake and if you’re looking for somewhere to celebrate, it’s the perfect spot! Nick couldn’t stop talking about the glaze on his fillet! It has lovely views and a classic, warm ambience.

The Cottage is much more casual and a great spot for lunch or dinner on the water. RIght now, you can dine in one of the Gondolas from Whiteface Mountain! I don’t think they’ll be there for the summer, but if you plan a visit for the Fall or Winter, it’s such a fun thing to do! They’re heated and a great way to enjoy a meal out safely in the age of Covid while also keeping things fun.

Breakfast is offered at the Inn as Room Service or To Go options right now due to Covid!

Accommodations

The accommodations range in price depending on what you’re looking for!

Classic Rooms—Options of a King bed or two queens, bathroom, wet bar, lake view

Suites—Two bedroom suites with common area, fireplace, two bathrooms, soaking tub

Lake Cottage—A two level home directly on the lake with a wrap around porch. Two family style rooms available, single rooms with fireplaces

Colonial House—Historic colonial style home on the lake. Huge balconies, HUGE bathtubs, stunning views, and fireplaces.

Activities

Golf—There are 3 courses near Mirror Lake Inn! We golfed at Whiteface Club & Resort which is a 5 minute drive and sister property to Mirror Lake Inn! There is also the Lake Placid Club which is within walking distance and Saranac Lake Golf Club, which is about a 15 minute drive from the Inn.

Hikes—Obviously there are the 46 Peaks to hike in the Adirondacks but if you’re looking for some simpler trails, we did the Brewster Peninsula Trail (we have done the Lake Shore Trail) and High Falls Gorge which has tons of waterfalls in the spring/summer and you can snowshoe in the winter!

Wine Tasting—Right on Main Street there is Goose Watch Winery which offers wine tastings! Right now you need a reservation during Covid but make sure to check as restrictions change as vaccination rates increase.

Olive Oil Tasting—On the other end of Main Street is Saratoga Olive Oil, which is always our favorite stop! They’re not offering tastings in the Lake Placid store right now due to Covid but you can always call ahead depending on when you choose to visit!

Shopping on Main Street—You MUST stop by The Bookstore Plus, my favorite indie bookstore! I finally got to say hi to Sarah this trip and it made me so happy. We also love Mary Ballou Designs for local artwork and Darrah Cooper Jewelers for handmade local jewelry!

Skiing—If you’re in Lake Placid in the winter, you have to ski Whiteface! It’s such a fun mountain!

Paddle Boarding, Kayaking, Fishing—Mirror Lake Inn has a private beach and dock where you can use their paddle boards and kayaks, included in your stay. Fishing equipment is not provided.

The Pool & Spa

The pool area was probably my favorite part of the hotel, besides the library. The pool area brings the outside in with lounge chairs, a sauna (closed for Covid regulations currently), and a hot tub.

The Spa is a true treat! Besides the expected massages and facials, there is a hair and nail salon and salt room. The Covid protocols are incredible clean and sanitized. If you’re looking for a treatment, there’s a range of prices that can work depending on your budget.

There is also an Outdoor Pool available Memorial Day-Labor Day!

We had a fantastic stay at The Mirror Lake Inn Resort & Spa and hope to return soon! We want to go in true summer (July or August) and at Christmas time because we hear the decor is out of this world.
