What's In My Headphones
I reached out on my Instagram the other day to share what everyone was listening to. I’ve been sharing my love of book playlists lately and while I don’t make one for every book I read, I definitely make them for books that stick with me!
I’ve been listening to my American Royals playlist A LOT but I’ve been building a writing playlist too, since a lot of my free time has been spent working on my ~book~ (I say this lightly because no one is asking for this book. I’m just writing it).
When isolation/work from home first began, I was so focused on keeping a perfect schedule and not having any distractions. I was constantly using my favorite ASMR rooms to help me focus, but then I associated them with work and not with relaxing for reading!
I never thought I could work with music on in the background, particularly music with lyrics. But now I’ve found a good playlist can really set the mood and tone for a great work session. Nick says he’ll look over sometimes and I’m just typing away but also JAMMING which is so funny to me!
I love knowing what you’re listening to! I left my thoughts on any of them that I have read or listened to! Drop some other recommendations in the comments.
Audiobooks
Maybe You Should Talk to Someone—I loved this audiobook!
The Royal We—Obviously I love this book! But I’ve never listened to the audio. I’ve heard it’s fun with lots of different accents!
Becoming—I adore this book and the documentary just came out on Netflix!
Capital Gaines—I read The Magnolia Story and gave Nick a copy of Capital Gaines for his birthday a few years ago. I haven’t listened to it but we love Chip and Jo!
A Court of Mist and Fury—Um…do we have to guess how I feel about these books?
An American Marriage—I read a hard copy of this one last year and was very moved by it!
My Dark Vanessa—This one is really hard to listen to, but it is performed by Grace Gummer who is Meryl Streep’s daughter! It does deal with grooming, sexual abuse, rape, suicidal ideation and suicide.
Know My Name—The best book of the last decade. I read a hard copy but listened to her Victim Impact Statement, which you can find on YouTube. It is so hard, but so so so powerful.
Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone—Did you see that the cast of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beats movies are reading it chapter by chapter?!
Educated—Another FANTASTIC memoir!

Such a Fun Age—I loved this book!

Let me know what you’re listening to today in the comments! And if you’re looking for an audiobook subscription that allows you to support your favorite local bookstores, I can’t recommend Libro.fm enough! It’s the same price as comparable services but your monthly subscription of $14.99 goes directly to your independent bookstore! How cool is that?!
