New Releases, Book of the Month, and Review Round Up!
It’s Tuesday and you know what that means…new books! But I also wanted to share some mini reviews and my February Book of the Month picks so this is just a normal Tuesday with some extra sparkle. How’s that sound?
Long Bright River—a FANTASTIC read on audiobook and physical. It dives into the opioid epidemic in Philadelphia. It’s part thriller, part cop drama, part family drama, and all around just a really fantastic book. I was a big fan. 5 stars!
In Five Years—This one comes out March 3, 2020 but I read it recently and it was definitely one that I think will be a great book club pick because it warrants conversation. Like Such a Fun Age, it doesn’t tell you who’s the bad guy or who’s the hero. You get to decide for yourself. It’s NOT a love story, but there is a fantastic example of female friendship and how our friends are the great loves of our lives. I settled on it being 4 stars!
The Regrets—Thank you LittleBrown for my copy! This book is fascinating and so different from anything I’ve ever read!
Reality and dream collide in Amy Bonnaffons's dazzling, darkly playful debut novel about a love affair between the living and the dead.
For weeks, Rachel has been noticing the same golden-haired young man sitting at her Brooklyn bus stop, staring off with a melancholy air. When, one day, she finally musters the courage to introduce herself, the chemistry between them is undeniable: Thomas is wise, witty, handsome, mysterious, clearly a kindred spirit. There's just one tiny problem: He's dead.
Stuck in a surreal limbo governed by bureaucracy, Thomas is unable to "cross over" to the afterlife until he completes a 90-day stint on earth, during which time he is forbidden to get involved with a member of the living -- lest he incur "regrets." When Thomas and Rachel break this rule, they unleash a cascade of bizarre, troubling consequences.
Set in the hallucinatory borderland between life and death, The Regrets is a gloriously strange and breathtakingly sexy exploration of love, the cataclysmic power of fantasies, and the painful, exhilarating work of waking up to reality, told with uncommon grace and humor by a visionary artist at the height of her imaginative power.
The Queen’s Fortune—Thank you Random House for my copy! For fans of historical fiction and romance, it sounds like it’s due to be totally mesmerizing! It’s about Desiree Clary, who captured the heart of Napolean and created a dynasty, ultimately changing the course of history.
