Review: The White Christmas Inn by Colleen Wright

One of my favorite movies of all time, not even just favorite Christmas movie, is White Christmas So when I saw the cover and title of The White Christmas Inn, I knew I had to have it. Plus, the author’s last name is pretty great, right?

This book is a sweet little story. It’s about a group of people who find themselves snowed in at an idyllic family owned Inn in Vermont. I didn’t love it, I didn’t hate it. If you like multi-POV holiday stories without romance, this will be perfect fit for you!

Synopsis: “A New England inn seems like the picture-perfect place to spend the holidays. But when a snowstorm shuts the roads and keeps them all inside, the guests find themselves worrying that this Christmas may not be exactly what they dreamed of. Molly just needs to keep her head down and finish her latest book, but her writer’s block is crippling. The arrival of Marcus, a handsome widower with two young girls, is exactly the distraction she doesn't need. Hannah was hoping for a picturesque winter wedding, but her plans come crashing down when her fiancé calls everything off. She reconnects with her childhood friend, Luke, when he comes to check on his grandmother before the storm. Jeanne and Tim don't know how they're going to keep the inn open another year—or how to bridge the distance between them in their marriage. With a flurry of unexpected guests, they'll have to work together to fix all the problems that crop up. But will it be enough to rekindle their relationship? As the characters’ stories intertwine, they start to find hope where they thought it had been lost. With faith, and a little bit of Christmas magic, the inn—and its inhabitants—might just make it through the holidays after all.” —From the publisher

What I Liked:

  1. The Setting—I am a New England girl at heart no matter where I go in life. This Inn in Vermont reminded me of one of our favorite places to have visited, The Christmas Farm Inn in New Hampshire.

  2. The Characters—The characters are fun and relatable. Obviously my favorite were the little girls!

  3. The Storm—I love books that have storms in them and this snow storm was perfect!

What Didn’t Work:

  1. The Pacing—Everything kind of moved too fast and too slow. The character development was a bit off and the pacing prevented me from feeling like I really cared about the characters.

  2. The Characters—Yes, on the “like” and “didn’t work” list! The characters were very 2 dimensional for me. So while I loved the idea of them, I didn’t feel like I really got to know them.
