Review: The Honeymoon by Rona Halsall

June is off and running with exciting new releases! So many great books are coming out this summer and I’ve been lucky enough to preview a number of them. If you’ve been reading for awhile, you know I’m getting married in 2020, so I’ve been drawn to plenty of wedding centric novels lately. When I received a copy of The Honeymoon by Rona Halsall, I was really excited to try something out of my comfort zone! I rarely dip into the world of thrillers and now I’m totally craving more!

I chose this book based on the title, since I'm currently engaged and have been drawn to everything and anything wedding related. I also had been craving an edge on your seat thriller. Unfortunately, this wasn't that for me. The writing is great and it's a well structured book, but plot wise it just wasn't as wild and crazy as I was hoping. I had it figured out pretty much from the beginning, and then there was a glimmer of hope that there was a giant twist, only to be disappointed by it at the end. I had completely guessed the outcome.

Some people may enjoy that, but as someone who doesn't read thrillers very often, I want to be surprised and not know where the story is going at all. I didn’t really connect with the characters either; I had a hard time not judging Chloe, cause how can you be surprised when you marry someone after only a month of dating and find out you now nothing about them. You know?

That's not to say I didn't enjoy this book, I obviously kept reading and finished it. I think i just went into it with the expectation that it was something else. It's enjoyable and a great beach read for the summer time, but it wasn't the edge of you seat thriller I was hoping for.

The Honeymoon is on sale June 7, 2019. Thank you to Bookouture for the advanced reader copy!
