#GOTSummerRead: Update #1
Okay, it’s been 3 days of #GOTSummerRead and I’m really enjoying it! I’m only 150 pages into the book (this weekend was CRAZY) but I love the structure of it. The short chapters have made picking it up feel wayyyy less daunting and as a detail oriented person, I really like learning more about the world. It’s pretty much true to season one of the show, so I am VERY interested to get into the other books and see where the show runners went off the rails. It’s not nearly as hard to read as I thought it would be! But I against my better judgement, i am balancing it with another book right now. Whoops.
What I'm excited to learn about:
The religion—old gods vs. the new
The wight walkers
The history and geography of Westeros
I knew the characters were all younger in the books than in the show, but just thinking of 13 year old Dany with Drogo had me cringing. No matter the portrayal of their wedding night as gentler than in the show, I still am just like “ugh male authors” cause at 13, I was way more interested in playing with my American Girl dolls.
It’s also really interesting to read Catelyn’s point of view. I feel like she may the one that surprises me the most in book vs. show!
What are your thoughts? Make sure you’re following along on Instagram, since that’s where I share my thoughts in real time!
