YA Favs of 2019

One of the things you can look forward to during my 25 Days of Christmas Posts are my best of/favorites of the year lists! They are also perfect gift guides if you need inspiration! I love using Goodreads to track what I’m reading, because when I sat down to write this post I realized I could not remember all of the YA I read this year. I mean, I've read A LOT of books this year and definitely stretched outside my comfort zone! How cool is that? I’m so thankful to all the authors and publishers that trust me with their words.

So, here are my 5 favorite YA books I read this year!

10 Blind Dates—This is a DELIGHTFUL and HILARIOUS little Christmas story. It’s about a teenage girl who gets dumped right before Christmas by her boyfriend of a year. She has a huge family who doesn’t want to see her sad, so they band together to set her up on 10 dates to get her mind off her heartbreak. And they certainly do! It’s laugh out loud funny, festive, with just the right amount of teenage swoon worthy love.

American Royals—This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and I’m so looking forward to it’s sequel (out September 2020!). This isn’t a perfect book—read my review here—but I really love the concept and the character of Beatrice so much, it’s made this list. Plus the ending gave me CHILLS.

Imagine an America in which George Washington became king and now it’s 2019 and the current lineage is on the thrown. It’s Gossip Girl meets The Crown meets The West Wing we love it.

Michigan Vs. The Boys—This is one of my favorite of the year. The WHOLE YEAR, people. I love, love, LOVE this book and have been meaning to reread it. It’s about a young female hockey player whose team gets cut because of budget issues at her school. So, she decides to try out for the boys team. It’s Beartown meets She’s the Man and it’s a delight. My feminist heart was singing while reading it.

Red White and Royal Blue—I’m counting this as YA although I know it’s *technically* romance but I think young people need to read it.

Another fictional world where Trump isn’t President?? SIGN ME UP! This was another highly anticipated release of 2019 and it didn’t disappoint. It’s about the bi-racial son of the first female President of the Untied States (sigh) getting hot and heavy with the British prince. It’s definitely steamy and has some strong language, so beware who you’re buying it for.

On the Come Up—The Hate U Give was one of my top books of 2018 so I could not wait for On the Come Up. Honestly, I liked it more. And thought it helped me, as a white person, really get a true account of growing up in a black community. Obviously I’ll never fully understand, but I really appreciated the world is opened up to me. All we can do is continue to learn and be better.

It’s about Bri, an aspiring rapper living in Garden Heights. She has a song go viral on the internet and suddenly has to face the image she’s projected to the world. Is it the real her?

Alright now it’s your turn. What was your favorite YA read of the year? I’m terrible at choosing just one, but I’m making you! Let me know in the comments!
