Top 10 Books of 2019
2019 has been one of the wildest years of my life. When I created this platform, I never thought it would become what it is. But now I am so incredibly grateful for it! I could go on and on about what this year has meant to me, but I think i’ll keep it to the books for now.
I read 110 books this year, across all genres (except horror. Never going down that route) and learned a whole lot. My reading life tends to reflect my real life. And this year, I leaned into some comfort as well as stretching outside that comfort zone and tried some new things. I am so grateful for the lessons I learned this year and I know 2020 is going to be the best year yet!
And here are my top 10 (well, 11) books of the year
11. The Bromance Bookclub by Lyssa Kay Adams—For something light with a little steam
10. Wild Game by Adrienne Brodeur—For something tough and meaningful
9. Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane—For something quiet, reflective, and powerful
8. Husband Material by Emily Belden—For something romantic and different, with a few laughs
7. Recusion by Blake Crouch—For something wild and though provoking, with a little sci-fi
6. A Woman if No Man by Etaf Rum—For something painful, necessary, and important
5. Station Eleven—For something totally unlike you’ve ever read
4. Michigan Vs. The Boys—For something YA friendly and feminist to the core
3. Beartown by Fredrik Backman—For something timely and exquisitely written
2. From the Corner of the Oval by Beck Dorey-Stein—For something strong and rooted in reality
And it’s not surprise what my favorite book of the year is:
1. KNOW MY NAME by Chanel Miller—If you read one book in your lifetime, make it this one. It is difficult to read, but so incredibly important. It is one of the most well written pieces I’ve ever read. it is inspiring, beautiful and difficult. But it gives voice to what it means to be a woman and what it means to have a voice.
If you read any of these books, I’d love to discuss them! Or if you are planning to pick them up, let me know! Thank you for following along and supporting me. Here’s to 2020!
