7 Boring Things That Changed My Life
I was laying in bed the other night at 8:30pm. I was showered, ready to read, my alarm set and my to do list complete. My kitchen was clean, meals prepped for the week, my to do list waiting for me in the morning. I felt SO relaxed. I realized that my peak moments of adulthood have been realizing that the things I resisted as a child are the things that make me thrive as an adult. Which then got me thinking about all the boring things that have changed my life for the better. I figured I’d share them with you, in case you’ve realized that the small moments are the ones that feel the best.
The Notes App
The Notes App is my current obsession. I have it organized into folders and I always use the checklist feature so I can check things off. It’s been so useful for me to have things synced between my phone and computer. I love to use it to track work tasks, my shopping lists, meal plans, wishlist, to do lists, etc. Literally any aspect of my life has a folder and I keep everything organized that way and it’s AMAZING.
Creating a Wishlist to Curb Impulse Spending
During the pandemic, I got really comfortable impulse buying. It was a small way to feel like I had control over things. However, it quickly turned to overspending and overconsumption. I’ve been embracing a year of less, so when I see something online that I like, I will add it to my wishlist. If I am still thinking about it a month later, or when it goes on sale, i’ll revisit purchasing it. It’s really helped to curb that impulse spending!
Reframing my Home To Do List as Reset List
When I get home from a long night at the theater, the last thing I want to do is clean the kitchen or put away laundry. But instead of thinking of it as a To Do List, i’ve started thinking of it as my daily, nightly, or weekly Reset List. I know what makes me feel good every morning. I know how to feel like I can go to bed rested. I know what I need to have a successful week. If I do one or two things every day, I am helping my future self. That is a gift, not a punishment.
Making My Bed Every Day
I started making my bed every day my sophomore year of college. I never did before that and I can’t believe i never did cause it’s the first thing that makes me feel good every morning. My roommate that year was on the messier side, which is fine, but it started to leave me feeling off kilter. By making my bed every morning, I was able to control what I contributed to the space, which is all you can do when you’re sharing. It’s been a habit that stuck ever since!
Daily Walks
A pandemic habit that I think stuck for so many people! I love to take an audiobook walk around lunch time. Since we got our dog in 2021, she joins me. But I used to go every morning with my coffee and sit by the lake near our home.
Starting My Day Reading
I started doing this because of my subway commute when I lived in NYC. Now, I make sure I building 30-60 minutes into my schedule every morning to read a few chapters while I have my coffee. It’s a cozy, gentle way to start my day and always clears my head.
Finding an SPF I Love
As a fair skinned girlie, I’ve always known I need SPF during the Summer. But since I found one I love, I never go a day without wearing it! You should wear SPF every day, even if you’re only going to be inside. My favorites: Australian Gold CC Cream (I use shade Fair to Light), Unseen Sunscreen, Sun Bum Glow.
