Kindle vs Kindle: My Thoughts on the Paperwhite and Oasis

When I purchased my Kindle Paperwhite in 2021. I had no idea how much it would impact my reading life. Truly. You can read all about how much I loved it in my initial review of the 2018 version of the Paperwhite! I have always been a Paperwhite girl. But my friend Ashley got the Oasis during a Prime Day deal in 2022 and spent the next year raving about it and trying to convert me.

…she finally won out in July. Now that I’ve had the Oasis for just about three months now, I feel like I have a good handle on it and if I recommend it or not. If you’re planning on asking for it for the holidays, a birthday, or treating yourself during the October Prime Day deals, I hope this is a helpful guide!

Kindle Paperwhite

  1. Battery Life—I think I have to charge my Paperwhite Signature Edition maybe once a month. The battery life is truly insane and one of the things I love most about it. It makes it perfect for traveling!

  2. Size/Appearance—I love how lightweight the Paperwhite is. It feels like an extension of me and isn’t cumbersome at all to add to my bag when I’m running out the door. It also fits perfectly in my Lululemon belt bags, which is ideal for travel! Also, the screen feels more like the pages of a book.

  3. Expense—The 32G Paperwhite Signature Edition, which is what I have, is $189. I’ve found it to be worth every penny but it’s a great purchase to make during Black Friday sales or on Prime Day.

  4. Extras—This is my comfort Kindle. I find it to comfortable, simple to use, convenient and not overwhelming at all.

  5. Cases—I don’t think you need a case for the Paperwhite at all! It’s perfectly sturdy.

Kindle Oasis

  1. Battery Life—The battery life doesn’t last nearly as long. If I use it consistently, I have to charge it once or twice a week, which isn’t as often as I have to charge my phone, ipad, or laptop. But it’s still something to be aware of if you plan to use it for travel.

  2. Size/Appearance—It’s more square than the Paperwhite and it doesn’t fit in my belt bags. The backlighting is much more sensitive in my opinion and feels more a computer. It feels much more delicate and definitely needs a case because it’s a lot thinner.

  3. Expense—The 8G Kindle Oasis is $249. This is the one I have but I also traded in my original Kindle Paperwhite for a $50 credit and it was on sale. I don’t know if I would have bought it full price!

  4. Extras—The buttons are a very nice touch and I like that I can switch off which hand is holding It since the screen rotates! The Paperwhite does not have these buttons at all.

My Thoughts

Alright, here’s the deal. I think if I had to recommend a Kindle, I would recommend the Kindle Paperwhite to start. I expected to immediately fall in love with the Oasis and I didn’t. I still really like it and as someone who reads a lot of digital galleys, I love having two Kindles. I go through phases with them, but when it comes to convenience and travel, I always reach for my Paperwhite more.

Now, if you fall in love with using an e-reader like I did, then I’d recommend upgrading to the Oasis! Let me know if you have any other questions about them!
