May's New Books

May is a HUGE publication month! It’s such an exciting time as everyone (hopefully) slows down for the summer and enjoys more down time to read. Here are 15 books out this month!

Sweet Home Alaska by Jennifer Snow—May 24

A female coast guard has to return to her hometown in Alaska, though that was never part of the plan, and runs into her former high school sweetheart. We all know I love a book set in Alaska!

See You Yesterday by Rachel Lynn Solomon—May 17

From the author of Weather Girl, comes a YA novel in the vein of Grounghog Day where college freshman Barrett Bloom is forced to relive her first day of college over and over again.

Tokyo Dreaming by Emiko Jean—May 31

The sequel to Tokyo Ever After, which I LOVED last year, finally releases in May. It’s like The Princess Diaries but in Japan and it’s so so so good.

American Royals III: Rivals by Katharine McGee—May 31

And another continuation of a series I can’t wait to read! Rivals is the third installment in the American Royals series and I think it takes us overseas for the first time! After the end of Majesty, I can’t wait to dive back into this work.

Book Lovers by Emily Henry—May 3

Book Lovers was the book I needed when I read it. I didn’t have high hopes for it, since I didn’t connect with Beach Read, but oh gosh, I loved it. It’s about Nora, a literary agent, and Charlie, an editor, who both end up in North Carolina from NYC. It’s a book lovers dream of a novel and I highlighted so many lines.

You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty by Akwaeke Emezi—May 25

Akwaeke Emezi is one of the most prolific writers of our time. Their new book is about moving forward with grief and I cannot wait to read it!

The Summer Place by Jennifer Weiner—May 3

I have a love hate relationship with Jennifer Weiner’s books…and yet I am always intrigued. The Summer Place is about family, in all it’s messy glory. There’s a wedding to a pandemic boyfriend, Cape Cod, and moving forward after the trauma of the pandemic.

The Book Woman’s Daughter by Kim Michele Richardson—May 3

The sequel to The Bookwoman of Troublesome Creek! Set back in the Kentucky mountains, we follow Honey Lovett as she fights to find her own independence.

I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey McQuiston—May 3

Casey McQuiston’s first YA novel hits shelves this May! It takes place at a private Christian high school in Alabama. Chloe Green has worked for 4 years to graduate as valedictorian. Her only competition is Shara Wheeler who kisses her once before graduation and then disappears…

By the Book by Jasmine Guillory—May 3

I adore Jasmine Guillory as an author and as a person. This is a Beauty and the Beast retelling!

Wilder by Christina Lauren—May 17

I haven’t had a knockout Christina Lauren since The Unhoneymooners but I still love to read their books! This one is based on the daughter of a treasure hunter. It sounds fun but also on the emotional side.

The Office BFFS by Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey—May 17

I love Jenna and Angela’s podcast so much so I can’t wait for this book! Jenna’s first book, The Actor’s Life, is one of my all time favorites so i’m looking forward to it.

Elektra by Jennifer Saint—May 3

I haven’t read Ariadne yet but I’ve heard it’s very good. I love Greek mythology retellings and know quite a bit about Elektra so i’m very interested in this one.

Every Summer After by Carly Fortune

I’ve been lusting after this cover for months. It seems to be about returning home, second chances, and loss. Plus, it takes place in a lake town!

Downton Shabby by Hopwood DePree—May 31

I am obsessed with the concept of this book. A contractor finds out he is the heir to an ancestral home in England and goes on a journey to restore it.

And that’s what’s on my radar this month! What about you?
