Rediscovering My Personal Style

I've been trying to figure out my personal style again as I've started doing more and more things outside my home since March 2020. It's been a struggle to figure out how to style my clothes after two years in leggins, sweatshirts, and prioritizing being cozy.

I’ve always been someone who isn’t 100% confident in their body. Isn’t it wild to look back on photos from middle and high school and be like “Woah, that’s not what I thought I looked like.” People in my life always made me think I was completely undesirable from the outside. Now, I look back and just see a sad little girl who didn’t live up to her potential because of the invalid words of others.

It’s never okay to comment on someone’s body. Ever. I really hope this is something that goes away as our generation becomes the adults and parents. This year, I just want to find basics to build up my wardrobe so that I have a closet full of classic pieces that make me feel confident and comfortable every day.

Elsa is who I always look to for advice when it comes to these things! She follows an 80/20 rule when it comes to her closet. 80% closet staples and basics that will last forever, 20% fun pieces that follow current trends to dress up the basics. I love that philosophy!

Leather Skirt // Sweater Blazer // Chambray Button Up // Black Scalloped Cami // Velvet Skirt

These are all items that can be worn together or separately, plus I can take the trendier pieces from my current wardrobe to make them work for any occasion. I’m going to keep these pieces in mind as I’m shopping and try to avoid any items that won’t work for multiple seasons or feel like other items in my closet.

Clearly, I know what I like. And it’s okay to gravitate toward the same things! But lately, I have felt like “so many clothes, but nothing to wear” and I don’t like that feeling. I’m going to do a lot donating in the coming weeks and rebuild my wardrobe to be made up of clothes that make me feel confident every time I put them on!
