7 Book to Movie Adaptations I Love

In January, I always feel a little lost when I need a break from reading and want to watch something. I spend most of November and December watching holiday movies and shows so in January, I’m like, “…now what?” and that got me thinking on my favorite book to movie adaptations.

When I’m reading, I can see how my favorite stories would come to life on screen thanks to my actor brain. It’s one of my favorite things to imagine because it’s my favorite hobby and my job coming together to create magic.

To All the Boys I Loved Before

If you don’t know I love this movie, I don’t know where you’ve been. I truly think this is one of the best book to movie adaptations of all time. It stays true to the book while also breathing new life into it. I just love it!

Crazy Rich Asians

Another fantastic adaptation that I liked even more than the book! I thought they did a great job editing the unnecessary parts of the book to make the movie more streamlined and paced well.

The Hating Game

A newer one to add to the list. I had a great time watching this movie. I thought the book was fine and it was one of my first forays into the Romance genre. But I thought the movie did a great job in staying true to the heart of the book while eliminating the things that weren’t necessary. I’m looking forward to watching it again!

Game of Thrones

I will never forget starting Game of Thrones. It was on a giant NYC snow day and I stayed in bed all day watching season one. I was OBSESSED. I read the first two books and I don’t even know if you can call it an adaptation because D&D didn’t have to adapt anything. It’s a copy/paste from the book, even the dialogue! But I still am highly entertained by the show…until the last two seasons. I want to see more mini series of books vs movies!

Station Eleven

One of my FAVORITE books of all time. I will say, it’s about a deadly flu pandemic 😅 so watch and read with caution if you’re not in the right headspace!

Little Women (1994 & 2019)

I love all things Little Women. The 1994 movie is so special to me and to this day I get cravings to watch it. I also love the 2019 version but for different reasons! I think the 1994 version captures the essence of Little Women and the 2019 version captures the reality of it.

Outlander

Okay…I’ve never actually read the books. I want to! But they just seem like SUCH a commitment when the show is right there. And I LOVE the show. But if you’ve read the book and think I need to give them a chance, let me know!

What’s your favorite? And what do I need to see and read this winter?
