Tis the Readson 2021: Reading Prompts & Guide
The end of the year is some of the coziest, happiest time. Every year I like time to slow down a little. I don’t want to rush to the weekend because I want to soak up every moment of the twinkle lights and baked goods and cheer. Personally, I celebrate Christmas and it’s my favorite holiday, but I know that’s not the case for everyone!
#TisTheReadson is about embracing a busy season and finding the time to slow down. I outlined how the Readathon works in this post! Today I’ll be sharing recommendations for some of the reading prompts, in case you’re stumped.
Prompts:
A Holiday You Don’t Celebrate
As I said, I celebrate Christmas so I’m sharing non-Christmas related books for this prompt!
A Backlist Title You Missed
Choose any genre, from any year or from earlier this year! It doesn’t have to be a holiday book. My personal pick is The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. In the graphic, I’ve included some of the books I read this year that I think you won’t want to miss!
A Festive Audiobook
I am an audiobook lover! I listened to A Christmas Carol for free on YouTube in 2019 and it was so great. If you want to support an independent bookstore this holiday season, you can use my code READANDWRIGHT to sign up for Libro.fm and get two audiobooks for the price of one!
Snow on the Cover
Set during Winter
A Holiday Classic (Whatever that Means to You!)
You know how some people claim that Die Hard is a Christmas movie? Think of this prompt like that! Read any book that captures what the season means for you. It could be a reread or a new favorite you’ve always meant to get to. A few of my “classics” are contemporary books that I like to reread every year!
An Illustrated Cover
I’m sharing Holiday centric recommendations for this one, but you can totally read any genre you want!

A Friend’s Favorite
Amanda, one of my co-hosts, LOVES Last Christmas in Paris. I meant to read it last year but I’m going to make it happen this year! Speaking from experience, there is no greater compliment than someone reading a book I loved and recommended. It’s pure joy to see someone love the same books! Since I think of all of you as my friends, I’ll leave some of my favorite books from this year in this category if you need an idea but also ask your friends and family!
