Review: Finding Freedom by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand

Finding Freedom

Alright, we all know that I am an avid Royal Watcher and am a self proclaimed Anglophile. I was truly excited for Finding Freedom to be released, especially with all the hype surrounding it that it was potentially written with Harry and Meghan’s blessing (lease note this is only speculation and not confirmed. I am not stating that it is officially endorsed by them at all). Truthfully, I don’t think I’ve gotten more DM’s asking for my thoughts on this book! So, here they are.

And first and foremost I am going to say: I have the utmost respect for the institution of the monarchy and tradition. I am an American and a self proclaimed Anglophile. I also have the utmost respect for Meghan Markle, who faced horrific racism and sexism before and after marrying into the royal family. ⠀

Synopsis: “The first, epic and true story of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s life together, finally revealing why they chose to pursue a more independent path and the reasons behind their unprecedented decision to step away from their royal lives, from two top royal reporters who have been behind the scenes since the couple first met. Finding Freedom is complete with full color photographs from Harry and Meghan’s courtship, wedding, Archie’s milestones, and many more unforgettable moments. “

My Thoughts:Here’s the deal...this book doesn’t really tell us anything “new” but I understand H&M’s desire to have their story told in their way. It didn’t feel any different than any other unofficial biography of royals to me. Truthfully, it’s a lot of names, dates, and quotes. So if you’re looking for something dishy or something to villains The Sussexes, the Cambridges, or the Monarchy itself, you won’t find that here. This is a great way to learn about the work H&M are passionate about, how they fell in love, and ultimately the events that lead to them stepping down as senior royals.
