My Reading Ambience

My friend Elsa asked me once how I like to read. Did I need complete silence, music, a candle, dim lights, bright lights—she needed to know. And it’s one of the reasons I love her, on top of all the other reasons she’s amazing. But it got me thinking…how do I like to read?

I do a lot reading on public transit, so I’m not picky. I *can* read anywhere. I can focus when I need to. But when it’s a really special book, sometimes you like to get a little extra and make your space cozier. We live in an apartment, so we don’t have a fireplace (I don’t even have a bath tub right now—I can’t talk about it) so I’m limited in space and hygge vibes. Until I found my new favorite tool.

Last week on my Instagram, I shared that I was “reading in the Gryffindor Common Room”, which confused a lot of people. But you can read in the Common Room too, and even Hagrid’s hut or Number 12 Grimmauld Place. Even during Christmas at Hogwarts!

Stay with me with here. It’s all thanks to ASMR rooms on Youtube. They create a lovely ambience and have made my reading life even cozier and more focused. I spent my evenings last week reading Wild at Heart by KA Tucker and loved every moment, not only because the book was everything I could have wanted, but because I living my best hygge life.

I wanted to round up my favorites to share with you, since I got so many questions! Shout out to my friend Alisa for sharing them with me and spreading the word! If you’re looking for more than Harry Potter themed rooms, definitely check out her blog post. She rounded up so many more, including Outlander and Game of Thrones!

Here are some of my favorites:

Christmas at 12 Grimmauld Place

Hagrid’s Hut

The Hogwarts’ Library

The Gryffinor Common Room

Valentine’s Day at Madam Puddifoot’s Tea Shop

But you can explore so much more! If Harry Potter isn’t your thing, they have TONS more. You can escape into any of your favorite fantasy worlds with your books. Let me know if you try them and what you think! I even put one on when I’m working now. I can’t listen to music but this provides enough background noise to keep me focused at the task at hand without distracting me.
