Happy Galentine's Day!
It’s the best day of the year: Galentine’s Day! If I am any fictional character, it’s Leslie Knope from Parks & Rec. I love her, I understand, I totally get the Joe Biden thing.
Female friendships are some of the most important ones in our lives, and I think ones we tend to forget about. But a show like Sex & The City wouldn’t do as well as it did if they weren’t important!
In Five Years—this is NOT a love story in the traditional sense of the word. But it has one of the greatest friendships I’ve read about recently.
Such a Fun Age—Zara and Emira crack me up. We all need a Zara in our lives.
The Color Purple—This book, movie, and Broadway show gut me every time. The friendship is so important.
Little Women—Little Women has always left me wishing I had a sister, but I have amazing friends who are like them!
Their Eyes Were Watching God—I read this book in high school and LOVED it. There’s also a character named Pheobey—different spelling, but same name! My name is never in books! It’s a fantastic read and a great one to include if you’re looking to diversify your reading life!
A Thousand Splendid Suns—This was another high school summer reading book and it has stuck with me for years. I didn’t read The Kite Runner, but A Thousand Splendid Suns remains one of my most recommended books to this day.
The Secret Life of Bees—I love this book, I love the women in this book, and now i have the urge to rewatch the movie!
I’d love to know which friendships stand out to you in literature! I think it’s such an important aspect that isn’t explored nearly enough. I’d love to read more books about women and their relationships with the friends in their lives!
