Review: Kingdom of Flesh and Fire by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Back with book two in the From Blood and Ash series by Jennifer L. Armentrout, A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire. I loved the second book just as much, if not more, as we got more answers (and questions) regarding this world. We got to know more characters who I fell in love with, had some steamy moments, and again, left me speechless at the twists and turns.
I don’t think this book suffered from “middle book syndrome” like in some series, but it is a bit slower and quieter. We spend more time inside Poppy’s head as she grapples with betrayal, desire, and identity.
I just need to say: HOLY CLIFFHANGER. The third book comes out in April so we do have a bit of time to wait so as much as I want you to read these books, I will say if you hate cliffhangers, wait until the third book is out to start.
Synopsis: I’m not going to leave a synopsis because it will contain spoilers if you haven’t read the first book yet! You can find a synopsis here.
What I Liked:
The Direction—While this book does need to bring us to the story’s conclusion, I loved the direction it took and everything it set up for the final installment in the series.
The New Characters—I don’t want to spoil what kind of new characters we meet, but I loved them all so much. This world is so dense but it really isn’t hard to wrap your mind around and that feel very contradictory but after reading some other series, I am glad that this one is so readable.
The Trope—Enemies to Lovers to Enemies…this is fun. It is juicy, it is human, and it is so so so real amidst creatures from our dreams. It’s so complex and while it may provide some frustrations for readers, I found Poppy’s struggles and commentaries to be very relatable.
What Didn’t Work:
Again, I’m going to go with nothing. I loved this series so much!
