Recent Review Round Up

This summer I really focused on reading what I wanted to read. Sometimes with the blog and as a reviewer, it can be super overwhelming to “have” to read a book. I feel really lucky that the library gods were on my side this summer and I didn’t have to wait a long time for any of these books!

Most of these have been pretty talked about and I can totally see why! I genuinely loved 3 out of the 4 and I think they cover the perfect summer reading trifecta. We have something light and rom-commy, a heavier fiction, and a science fiction thriller. Pretty well rounded if I do say so myself!

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren—If you take any book away for vacation or a long weekend, it should be this one. I’d never read any of Christina Lauren’s books before, but I am totally going to have to go through their backlist now! Fun fact: Christina Lauren is a duo! They’re a pair of best friends that write together. How cool is that? 5 Stars.

Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey—Aw man, this one totally let me down. I’m not a big fan of cheesy romance, and this took a REALLY great concept and just oversimplified it. I kinda can’t stand when authors “take the easy way out” with story lines. Meaning they present a conflict and the solution has nothing to do with it. It’s like giving a character a terminal disease and finding a cure three pages later. Fun concept, but not worth buying. I’m glad I got it from the library! 2 1/2 Stars

Mrs. Everything—Read. This. Book. And do yourself a favor and read it in tandem with Three Women by Lisa Taddeo. So important, so thrilling, so heartbreaking. I am so happy women’s stories are being told and celebrated. 4/5 Stars

Recursion by Blake Crouch—The book that surprised me the most and that I totally loved. It’s got time travel, science, and love. I really hope they make it into a mini series or movie cause I want to see it all come to life. I never read this genre and now I’m tempted to go back and read Dark Matter! 5 Stars

The rest of this month I am slugging through a TON of ARCs but that means I am going to have an amazing Back to School reading round up for you! Summer isn’t over yet people, so take advantage of your weekends and days off if you don’t have any more vacations planned!
