Wedding Wednesday: Music
I asked on my Instagram the other day (follow me here!) what wedding content you’d like to see this week and got a few requests to talk music! I hadn’t even had it on my initial list and I’m shocked. Music is a HUGE part the day for us. Since I’m an actor, I’m very attached and moved by music. I never used to be a crier, but as I’ve grown into my twenties, girl. I can tear up at the drop of a hat.
Whenever my mom and I would talk about my future wedding, she’d always state the importance of a live band. Seriously, I think once I was 21 every time my parents went to a wedding my mom would come home with the business card and info for every band she liked. She kept them in a file along with every invitation, save the date, program, favor, etc she loved.
I knew she was doing this, but when she pulled it out after we got engaged, I didn’t realize how important it would be! Little tip from me to you. Even if you’re not seeing someone, if you go to an event and like something, get the info and save it! You’ll be grateful you did! And it doesn’t have to be for a wedding, it could be for an anniversary party for your parents, a graduation party, or even a retirement party you’re planning.
Since my parents are hosting our wedding and they wanted a live band, I wasn’t going to argue! We’re using an AMAZING band out of NYC that we’ve seen at two separate weddings and are fantastic. I am so so sooo excited for them to perform and I think it will be an awesome element of the night!
For the ceremony, we are having our church’s organist and music director play. We’ll be hiring a few extra pieces, some strings and I.want.a.trumpet (lol). And for cocktail hour, I haven’t decided if I want to have a few members of the band play/underscore the hour or if we’ll just have a piano player. What are your thoughts?
I have NO IDEA what I want our first dance to be. I love a good Ed Sheeran, but I hate doing what everyone else does. I think I want to do something classic. Once we get through moving, I’m looking forward to being able to wedding plan in the evenings together and this will definitely be one of the things we talk about. My dad and I have talked over some father/daughter songs but then we both start crying and have to table it.
I’d love to know your favorite selections for first dance/father-daughter/mother-son dances at weddings!
