Wedding Wednesday: The First Look

Taking a little literary break to share if we are going to be doing a First Look!

I don’t know why I feel like this post is slightly controversial, but for some reason I always feel like there’s sensitivity around what choices people make for their weddings. I think what people have to remember is that everyone is choosing what works for them and their families.

The First Look has become pretty popular in the last few years. I think it’s really great for couples who don’t have time between their ceremony and reception, because then they can get photos out the way and actually enjoy their cocktail hour. I also think it’s great for any bride and groom feeling extra anxious about all eyes on them, because you get the “big moment” out of the way in private and have some alone time with your significant other before walking down the aisle.

For us, we’ve chosen not to do a first look. We are getting married in a church, so our ceremony time is pretty early compared to our reception, so we’ll have plenty of time in-between to take photos with our bridal party and families. Then we can enjoy our cocktail hour!

My biggest wish for the whole day is that I want to feel like I am PART of everything. I hate weddings where the bride and groom are just shepherded around and don’t get to enjoy their day and all the hard work that went into planning.

I’ve always wanted to have the first moment of walking down the aisle and seeing my future husband for the first time. I’m more nervous for the first look moment with my dad, because I know we are both going to lose it!

What are your thoughts on a First Look?
